Hi Friends –

I’m home for a few days before heading to Iowa and Illinois next week.  Check the tour schedule for details.

The flowers are just starting to bloom or show promise this Mother’s Day weekend here in Minnesota.  My Mom is fond of telling us kids not to worry about making this one day special as every day is Mother’s Day.  I kind of like that idea of treating people as if every day is THEIR special day.

It’s been a crazy spring here, starting with my Mom (90 years old) being pushed over by a fast closing elevator door, resulting is a severely broken leg.  She’s still mending but says she can’t wait to get back on her feet and to go give that elevator a good swift kick.  I’ll remind her to use the leg that now has a steel rod in it.

About a week after that happened, I came down with a good case of Influenza B.  Let me tell you folks, this isn’t like any flu I ever had as a kid.  I’ve never had hallucinations before while being sick. It’s also a fabulous way to lose 16 pounds in a week.   If this is the “B” version, I wonder what the “A” is like?

Ah, but the fun wasn't over.  The very day the fever broke, I started coughing up chunks of blood.  It's funny how when you call the doctor's office and tell them this, they get you in right away. It was pneumonia. Six weeks later I'm still coughing a bit and working on getting my lung power back for singing.

And now as soon as I get over this sinus infection...

Good grief, right? Ah, but like the chipmunk coming out of hibernation, I am starting to poke my nose out of the hole and experience the world again.  This week I made an appearance at the Minnesota School Counselor Association annual conference.
Over 400 trained, professional counselors at my disposal! After talking with me, I noticed several of them heading straight to the bar for drinks. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

Seriously, it was fun talking with them about the Beads on One String Project.  Looks like I'll be coming to many of their elementary schools next year to talk about bullying and related issues, sharing the story of Beads on One String.

Lakeland Public TV in Bemidji did a nice feature on the Beads on One String Project when I visited Solway Elementary in Northern Minnesota this week.  Here’s a link to the TV feature.  http://lptv.org/musician-shares-anti-bullying-message-with-solway-school/

I felt bad for the reporter, Catherine Silver.  She had just moved here from central Florida and though it was 60 degrees here, she was wearing her parka the whole two hours she was interviewing me and following me around the school.  I suspect she’ll be wearing that parka until July, then downsize to a nice hooded sweatshirt.

Hang in there Catherine! Minnesota weather does take some getting used to.

Peace,
