Hi Friends!
I am getting ready for my final performance of 2014 this weekend. If you happen to
be in central Minnesota, mark 10am Sunday December 14th on your calendar. It's "John Denver Sunday" at
the Unity Spiritual Center in Sartell, MN.
More on that in a minute...
A couple of weeks ago I made a tactical error on my way to a concert and ended up
sitting in Orlando, Florida's rush hour traffic. Seizing the opportunity to let my
mind wander, it was hard not to notice a billboard with a photo featuring actress Angelina Jolie, which (naturally) spurred me to wondering if I had any good concert video of my song, "Angelina".
Of course, and perhaps unfortunately, my song has nothing to do with Ms. Jolie. But I think
it's a good song and I always seem to get wonderful comments about it. So voila! There's a
new video on YouTube! Check it out and let me know what you think. And yes, I did make
it in time for the concert and it was a fabulous evening.
Last week in northern Minnesota, I had the privilege to perform the Beads on One String program in the Bemidji Public Schools for 2000 kids. It was so much fun. The kids knew the
song and were excited to see me. Bemidji is a great town, nestled along the shore of a
lovely lake. Lots of old, towering pine trees. You get the picture.
I went to my first year of college at Bemidji State University, where basically I completed my music minor during those nine months. My cello instructor and choir director were two
of the finest teachers I ever had. One of the first things I learned, though, was how to properly pronounce the town's name: Burrrr-midji.
Yep, it can get cold there as it was last week. At the motel, the desk clerk signed me in and handed me a cup of hot cocoa. Nice!
Before he was famous, John Denver used to play at Bemidji State in the Crying Wolf Coffeehouse. (Notice my sly transition back to John Denver?) Anyway, John's music weighed heavily on this impressionable, blonde haired, blue eyed youngster.
Then at fourteen, I taught myself to play guitar with his music. I loved the positivity he would bring to the stage and the way he could speak right to my heart through song.
Join me if you're in the area this Sunday. If you’re affiliated with a church or spiritual center, I could even bring this program to you! These are fun performances.
From my home here in beautiful Minnesota, I wish all my friends "Happy Holidays" and a peaceful 2015.
Your Buddy,
Dennis Warner
