Back in the Windy City. I spend more time here that anywhere else
outside of Minnesota. My GPS is doing more than driving me to my
destination. It's driving me crazy! It seems to take me on the longest
route possible in Chicago. What's up with that?
It
was fun to be a part of the FARM conference (Folk Alliance Regional
Midwest) today. It's a great organization run by people who truly
love folk/acoustic music. Tomorrow I perform at the Unity Church
Northwest in Des Plaines, IL. I know it will be a very wonderful
morning. :)

I love this job! I've had some amazing concerts in the last few
days and now I'm camped out on an island in Lake Erie. Off season
camping is the best. The campgrounds aren't busy and I get to spend
time thinking and dreaming. There's just something about being camped
out along a shore that makes me feel at home.
From
here I head to Louisville, KY. Then Lexington, KY for the Woodsongs
Old Time Radio Hour. I'm looking forward to seeing how that great
NPR show goes down live.

Hey, I'm in Minot! Okay, I WAS in Minot, North Dakota tonight for
a concert. A beautiful, perfect evening for an outdoor concert.
Thanks to everyone who came out to see me. Some traveled a great
distance and I'm very appreciative of that. Minot is a wonderful
city, but is about as remote as you can get. Funny though, there
were no motel rooms available because of the big oil boom up this
way. Thanks to the nasty BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the
push is on to develop the nearby Bakken oil fields as fast as possible.
Anyway,
the oil workers have all the motel rooms, so I'm 90 minutes south
in Bismarck, the capitol city. A beautiful moonbeam tonight.

After four truly fun concerts in the Denver area, I decided to take
some personal time up in the mountains. Find a place to camp out,
climb a mountain and do some meditating. Really nice weather, though
it's cool at night. I'm enjoying the hot springs and have met some
really cool people. I was even able to do some writing today during
a long, exhausting hike. It takes a while for this flatlander to
adjust to the altitude.

It was with great happiness that I was anticipating my stay at the
downtown Hilton Hotel. Upon arrival, it was surprising to find out
the hotel workers went on strike that morning. Yikes! Then trying
to work in my room on the 15th floor proved taxing while the striking
workers below on the street were making their point with drums and
bull horns. It was really quite a surreal experience. Hopefully,
the workers and management can get this figured out soon.
I'm
getting ready for a performance this weekend in Walnut Creek, about
a half hour east. Tomorrow I'm looking forward to having coffee
and doing some writing over in the Haight/Ashbury district.

I haven't been traveling as much this winter, which means I've been
able to hibernate in the studio recording a lot of music. It was
about a year ago when I completed building my new studio and began
work on my next CD. This will be my nineth album. It's been a great
experience creating this music in my own space, without the time
restrictions associated with renting a "normal" studio.
I'm
getting closer to completing this project. I have one more song
I want to write.
In
a couple of days I head to Memphis. From now until August the schedule
is a little crazy, with concerts from Ohio to California. I'm looking
forward to being back on the road. If anyone's reading this and
wants to host a house concert, let me know. Hopefully there'll be
a new CD to show off sometime soon! |
